Advocacy & Scholarship Opportunity for Members 18-28
Washington DC
RESULTS is an advocacy organization that works closely with us on early childhood and child nutrition issues. Here is information on an advocacy training and scholarship opportunity for people 18-28 years old. Deadline May 15. Please contact them directly.
RESULTS Educational Fund believes that training a new generation of advocates is crucial to fighting hunger at home and abroad. We are expanding our REAL Change Scholarship program in order to bring more young people to Washington, DC, and provide broader opportunities for advocacy training. There will be trainings on organizing and advocacy, a career panel, and networking opportunities. This special opportunity for young leaders is being organized as part of RESULTS/RESULTS Educational Fund 2013 International Conference in Washington, DC, July 20-23, 2013. The REAL Change Program covers most of the cost of conference registration, travel to DC, food costs, and lodging at the Double Tree in Crystal City for 18-28 year olds.
This year, we are honored that Nobel Peace Prize winner, Grameen Bank founder, and RESULTS board member Muhammad Yunus will be joining us as a keynote speaker at the conference. Professor Yunus pioneered the microfinance movement, which has helped nearly 130 million very poor women have access to small loans and other critical services to help them move out of poverty (see the note from Muhammad Yunus below). During our U.S. poverty-focused sessions, we’ll hear from first-hand experts on the struggles facing low-income families – those who have experienced poverty first-hand, via our work with coalition partners at Circles USA and Witnesses to Hunger. And, we’ll make sure we are prepared for our important and timely meetings on Capitol Hill to protect SNAP (formerly food stamps), the EITC, and build support for early childhood initiatives, with sessions to understand the latest research (including local data) and tips on how to message to different audiences. The conference also includes helpful skills trainings to help you improve your advocacy skills; first rate lobby preparation sessions to prepare for Lobby Day; and an empowering and important Lobby Day on Capitol Hill.
RESULTS is working to train a new generation of young leaders to take action on the hill and in their communities, but we need your help! Please help promote the REAL Change program to your networks. The scholarship provides young RESULTS activists and potential new activists the chance to attend the RESULTS International Conference for a fraction of the overall cost. If you qualify or know someone who would, please apply. The deadline is May 15. You can find more information about the REAL Change Program on the RESULTS website, including how to apply (an application is also attached).
